Naamu ft. Aziz Ozouss is an exciting new collaboration between the band Naamu and Moroccan multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Aziz Ozouss. Together, they explore the rich musical traditions of Morocco – from the trance-like rhythms of Gnaoua to the melodic and poetic power of Amazigh music – blending these influences with the improvisational spirit of jazz.
The collaboration began in early 2025, when the band toured Morocco. Immersing themselves in local styles, they performed alongside musicians from the Ismgan Idaoumhand Gnaoua association and played various concerts, including a headliner performance for an audience of 1,500 at the Talborjt Festival in Agadir. The musical exchange sparked a shared desire to develop a unique musical approach.
At the heart of this project’s sound is the rebab, Aziz’s main instrument. The rebab is a traditional bowed string instrument with a warm, resonant tone, often used in North African and Middle Eastern music. Played with a bow, it has a uniquely expressive, almost vocal quality that beautifully complements Aziz’s soulful singing in Amazigh, the language of North Africa’s indigenous people.
In 2026, Naamu ft. Aziz Ozouss will release original music: a powerful and fresh blend where Amazigh tradition and jazz meet in a sound all their own.
