De Raad van Toezicht

De Raad van Toezicht (Board of Directors) was a nine man band that has been hailed as one of the hottest bands on the Dutch jazz scene. Nine playful, yet solid musicians combined their ideas and influences to create contemporary jazz. This young collective wrote its own fresh and delicate originals somewhere between jazz, funk, hip-hop and rock. Making the most out of their colorful line up of instruments, their music features strong grooves from all over the world as well as intense improvisations.

De Raad van Toezicht had its breakthrough in 2016, playing a string of major festivals such as Amersfoort Jazz, Jazz in Duketown, Jazz International Rotterdam and The North Sea Jazz Festival. The music is brought together from the wide-ranging influences of the members, ranging from rock to African music, Latin and even some western music. Though jazz and funk remain the key ingredients of which the band gets its spontaneity and infectiously strong grooves.

The album “De Raad” was released in April 2017, followed by an extended club and festival tour in the Netherlands, with performances at Transition Festival, Paradox, Noorderslag and So What’s Next. The album and live shows got them great press reviews as well as a wide ranging group of fans. There have been regular appearances on the Dutch radio show NPO Soul & Jazz.

The ongoing media attention reached its summit when De Raad van Toezicht was invited to give what would become a mind-blowing performance on De Wereld Draait Door, the most significant live talk show in The Netherlands. More television and radio performances quickly followed, introducing De Raad to a whole new Dutch audience.

In Oktober 2018, De Raad released their second album “84”, which was received with rave reviews by both public and critics. The release tour included the Netheralnds’ finest venues like Bimhuis, LantarenVenster, Philharmonie and Luxor Live. Performing with its brutal sound, a vibrant mix of strong compositions and a new all-star line-up, De Raad proved to be a live sensation in the world of jazz and pop!

In 2020 the band made the decision to stop: leaving behind a legacy of 2 albums and various live appearances at radio and television programs.
